AUCKLAND – IBIS HOTEL AUCKLAND CENTRAL, 3* (4 nights from 22nd June)
Centrally located in Auckland CBD (Central Business District), ibis budget Auckland Central offers modern accommodation with a kitchenette, en suite bathroom and a balcony. Situated just off Queen Street, ibis budget Auckland Central is within easy walking distance of most city centre attractions. Auckland’s Sky Tower is only 200 m away, while Viaduct Harbour is 600 m away. All guest rooms are decorated in a modern style with a fridge, microwave and cooking facilities. Some rooms enjoy great views over Auckland city from the private balcony. Ibis Auckland Central offers easy access to transport including local trains and buses.

NAPIER – THE CROWN HOTEL, 4* (3 nights from 26th June)
Overlooking the waterfront, The Crown Hotel offers stylish boutique accommodation in Ahuriri, just 5 minutes’ drive from Napier city centre. Guests receive access to a restaurant, fitness centre and 5GB of free Wi-Fi. Crown Hotel Napier features the original heritage-listed hotel building, restored to reflect the style of the Art Deco era. The newer 4-storey complex features studios and suites with ocean views and modern furnishings. All accommodation includes underfloor heating, a private terrace, iPod dock and an LCD TV with satellite channels. The bathrooms feature luxurious fittings and a hairdryer. Tea/coffee making facilities and a work desk are provided. Milk & Honey Restaurant is located on the ground floor of the Hotel overlooking the ocean. Additional hotel amenities include complimentary car parking, daily newspapers and laundry facilities. Those travelling with babies receive a free gift pack containing a change mat, toys and baby products. The Crown Hotel is an 8-minute drive from Hawke’s Bay Airport.
LWTL Says: ’A lovely boutique hotel, set nicely on the waterfront in the growing fishing area of Napier, a few minutes drive from the ‘Old Town’. Rooms are nice and clean and there is a nice bar and restaurant onsite with others found on the streets behind.’
WELLINGTON – BAY PLAZA HOTEL, 3* (3 nights from 29th June)
Bay Plaza Hotel is located on Oriental Parade in Wellington’s city centre, offering rooms with satellite and Freeview TV and a tea and coffee maker. Te Papa Museum is a short 5-minute walk away. All guest rooms at Bay Plaza Wellington offer stylish decor and modern amenities. Some rooms also offer panoramic views of the harbour, city or Mount Victoria. With views looking out to Wellington Harbour, the brasserie-style restaurant serves modern New Zealand cuisine and is open for breakfast and dinner. There is also a cocktail bar with fine wines. Bay Plaza Hotel Wellington offers same-day laundry and dry cleaning services, and 24-hour room service. Public transport links are close by, with the city’s main bus and taxi terminals around the corner in Courtenay Place.
LWTL Says: ‘probably fairly rated on Trip Advisor at 33 out of 49 hotels in Wellington. Whilst it could be improved, it is just 10 minutes walk from the waterfront and in sight of the stadium for match days. Rooms are large and again, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was among the best we sampled.’
QUEENSTOWN – HERITAGE HOTEL, 4* (5 nights from 2nd July)
Boasting stunning views over Lake Wakatipu and Queenstown, this friendly hotel is located just outside the lively town centre. It features a heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool and an elegant restaurant. Guests enjoy 1GB of free WiFi per night. Heritage Queenstown offers modern, alpine-style accommodation in peaceful, scenic surroundings. In a typical mountain style, the buildings are made from centuries-old schist stone and cedar wood. The property is 20 minutes’ walk from the centre of Queenstown and a 10-minute drive from Shotover River. It is 13 minutes’ drive from Queenstown International Airport. Accommodation choices include hotel rooms, apartments and large open-plan studio suites. Fern Hill is a great choice for travellers interested in lakes, downhill skiing and scenery.
LWTL Says: ‘A great hotel with nice rooms on the edge of town and beside the lake. It has a big bar and restaurant but the indoor/outdoor pool and spa will also be popular!’
AUCKLAND – WALDORF HOTEL, 3* (3 nights from 7th July)
Waldorf Tetra Apartments offer spacious apartment accommodation in the heart of Auckland CBD (Central Business District), just 50 m from the shops, entertainment and restaurants of Queen Street. Guests receive 1GB of free WiFi per day. All apartments at Tetra Waldorf offer kitchenettes and combined dining/lounge areas. Laundry facilities are provided and local telephone calls are free. Guests can work out at the on-site fitness centre. Waldorf Tetra Apartments are located less than 10 minutes’ walk from Auckland University, the Sky City and The Civic Theatre. It is 5 minutes’ drive from Auckland Domain and World War II Museum. Auckland Hospital is 8 minutes’ drive away.
LWTL Says: ‘A high standard of self catering apartments currently being refurbished (not all rooms). There is no bar or restaurant available and breakfast will be available at a cafe next door included as part of your package. The walk to the city centre would take between 15-20 minutes but bars and restaurants can be found within 10 minutes.’

Many many thanks for a fantastic holiday. Everything was so well organised I really cannot speak highly enough of the quality of the tour and the hard work put in by both the Living with the Lions guys and all the volunteers. Mike, Andy, Fleur and Lucy on our tour were simply brilliant. Looking after so many people all doing their own things was not an easy task although you guys made it seem effortless – the hard work behind the scenes made everything go like clockwork. The final Saturday was a day to remember. The general talk was – “well how good was that”. Not just the result but the whole day, simply brilliant. Rob and Bentos were both fantastic as well working so hard to talk with everyone to make everyone’s holiday something special. Once again a big thank you to all and hope to see you all again in four years!!
